REFLECTION:
Experience:
I've never been one to dabble so much of myself into learning about things like typography and thought it wouldn't necessarily be needed for my course. However, I realised that there is so much more to this subject than one might assume, from the most detailed of explanations to even some of the history of it. Throughout these past 14 weeks, this has been a relatively eye opening module and while I for certain know that it was one of the more stressful subjects, I can't help but feel I have learnt a lot, throughout all 3 assignments teaching me the basic facets on typography. Overall, I was satisfied with this module.
Observation:
Throughout the weeks, I've started to observe on the intricate details of fonts and how they were made, how typefaces can be spaced out for something like readability, text formatting layouts having an interesting, readable and yet simple look to them. While I understood there was a science to typography, I did not realize it went this deep and with what I've learnt, I have a newfound appreciation for this subject.
Findings:
Initially, when I got into this module, I approached typography in the way of an artist, someone that uses graphics, drawings to one's work. I see now that this is much less graphically heavy than what I thought and realized it does not have to be so complicated most of the time. Sometimes, simplicity can exhibit the same, if not a better effect as long as you know what you are doing.
